In the retail business it is so tempting to push Christmas as early as possible. We all would love a few extra big sale days, but I have been a little bummed out that Thanksgiving has been pushed aside because of it. Before the decorations go up in the store and before the reminders of how many shopping days you have left, I just wanted to give thanks. To you the customers, for years of support and loyalty. To my employees, for always going the extra mile and making it all possible. To friends and family, who have jumped in to help paint a wall, cover a shift, or just understood when work came first. Thank You.

I hope you have to opportunity to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday by just toasting that you made it another year, through hard times and great ones and remember who helped you along the way.

Since Mexico is a little out of my budget at the moment, I checked Eastern Washington, specifically Quincy. Cave B Winery is there and so is the warm weather! Starting about Thursday and going through the weekend they are going to have temps. in the mid 70's. It's only a few hours away by car and to get a glimpse of the sun, I'd say well worth it. Wine tasting is $6, pack a picnic and a pair of these Larissa shoes. You are good to go. See you there!

It's that time of year, ladies and gentleman, VALENTINE'S DAY! Stores are already beginning to overflow with pink and red hearts, candies, and love notes. For those of you who didn't know, there are many ways to win your lady's heart. Two of them--SHOES and CHOCOLATE! These sweet, red pumps will win that gal over, no doubt.

All Black, Cut Out Pat Red Berry, $124

Want to win some bonus points? Prepare this delicious chocolate treat (thank you Paula Deen).

Ingredients

6 (1-ounce) squares bittersweet chocolate
2 (1-ounce) squares semisweet chocolate
10 tablespoons (1 1/4 stick) butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 large eggs
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons orange liqueur

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Grease 6 (6-ounce) custard cups. Melt the chocolates and butter in the microwave, or in a double boiler. Add the flour and sugar to chocolate mixture. Stir in the eggs and yolks until smooth. Stir in the vanilla and orange liqueur. Divide the batter evenly among the custard cups. Place in the oven and bake for 14 minutes. The edges should be firm but the center will be runny. Run a knife around the edges to loosen and invert onto dessert plates.

Well I guess I have finally said goodbye to summer and am embracing the fall/winter season. I am starting my holiday ritual. I am going out once a week to visit and enjoy the many beautiful bars of the city. They take on an extra beauty around this time of year. Candle light, holiday decor and a menu of hot toddies and Irish coffees. This gives me the excuse to dress up, feel festive and explore my city a little bit more. Just saw this movie last night, Visual Acoustics, and I really enjoyed it. It follows the career of Julius Schulman, a photograher of modernist architecture. From "retro" houses in Palm Springs, to outlandish houses on the L.A. hillsides, it is inspiring to learn about the movement and the amazing man who documented it all. One of my favorite things to do in Seattle is to curl up with a great read. I'm pretty excited to check out The Autobiography of Mark Twain, Volume 1, which is being released this November. Mark Twain requested on his death bed that the three volume autobiography was not to be printed for 100 years.. 100 years! Historians are divided about why Twain wanted to wait so long, but there is speculation that he either wanted to talk freely about religion and politics, or that he just didn't want to worry about offending any friends! Either way, there is something so romantic about a memoir being unsealed and released from such an iconic literary figure..

Oh, those summer toes! For some of us, bearing our toes to the world is not as easy as it looks. Yes, we've all heard about the dreaded swimsuit season, but toes rank pretty high up on the insecurity list too. That's why all the nail salons are in high gear right now, trying to make our tootsies as pretty as they can be. For me, it has been the longer second toe. For years it kinda drove me crazy, but then it was pointed out to me that many women in classical paintings and sculpture have a longer second toe. The Birth of Venus is one example. So what I had thought was ugly, turns out to be the mark of a beautiful women. So, don't worry your pretty little feet anymore about those toes. Memorial Day

I was driving past a cemetery a couple of days ago that I pass frequently and don't pay much attention to. This day it was full of white crosses marking the graves of soldiers killed in service. It was such a powerful image, I got a little teary eyed. Sometimes we are just so busy with our lives that we really don't get a chance to stop and think of the people that came before us and how their sacrifices have shaped the world we live in today. The picture above is another memorial using combat boots to help us remember and reflect.

I feel like I have just discovered something for the first time and loved it. Sunset Magazine rocks! Although it's been around forever and your mom probably has it on her coffee table, it's not just for her or gardeners or cooks or whatever we all thought it was. It's for you and me. This issue profiles a guy living and working in his Airstream, killer hikes in Washington, great places to get a drink with your breakfast and a whole lot more.
